The state commissioner of police has been accused of constitutional violations by Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State.
El-Rufai claimed that the summons he received from the state police command was a risky step toward lawlessness.
The African Democratic Congress, or ADC, was supposed to meet in the state, but the state police command allegedly stopped it from happening.
Seven ADC members and El-Rufai were then called in by the Command to be questioned.
It charged the former governor and ADC members with criminal conspiracy, serious injury, mischief, and inciting public unrest.According to the summons, El-Rufai and others must be produced at the State Criminal Investigation Department, or SCID, on September 8 by the state’s ADC Chairman. Responding, El-Rufai condemned the action of the state Police Command. Speaking to reporters at his home in Kaduna, the former governor stated: “The commissioner is aware that his actions are against the Constitution.
“He claimed it was a court order, but it was never served,” he said, waving a piece of paper. Even if such an order is in place, it must be delivered legally before it can be implemented. That hasn’t occurred. This is a risky step toward lawlessness. We will challenge the court’s decision, we want to see that injunction, and we want to know the grounds. This is not the end; there will be more actions taken.
