In the event that the Electoral Act 2022 modification does not require real-time electronic transmission and collation of election results, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned widespread protests or a complete boycott of the polls. The NLC claimed that failing to make it clear if electronic transmission of results will be required would erode public confidence in the electoral process in a statement released yesterday by its president, Joe Ajaero, titled “The Senate Must Come Clean Now: Electoral Integrity at Stake.”The Senate is holding an extraordinary plenary session tomorrow after recently rejecting a measure to require real-time electronic transmission of election results. The NLC voiced its concerns about the Senate’s alleged misunderstandings and conflicting statements on the Electoral Act amendment, namely with regard to the electronic transmission of results.
