The largest and most unexpected transfer in Premier League history, according to Manchester United icon Gary Neville, was Sol Campbell’s transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Arsenal.
In a recent episode of The Overlap’s Stick to Football, Neville made this claim.
“To my surprise, Sol is the largest transfer I have ever witnessed. It was enormous in shocks, according to Neville.
In 2001, Campbell moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Arsenal.
The former defender played for Arsenal for five seasons before departing on a free transfer to Portsmouth in 2006.
But in 2010, Campbell returned to the Gunners, where he played for six months before transferring to Newcastle United, where he ultimately gave up playing.
