Former Manchester United striker, Michael Owen has said he felt sorry for William Saliba after the Gunners’ Premier League 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
According to the former England international, Saliba should be angry with goalkeeper, David Raya over Jean-Philippe Mateta’s equaliser for Palace against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are now on the brink of conceding the Premier League title to Liverpool, who now need just a point against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday to be crowned champions.
Despite Arsenal going ahead two times against Crystal Palace thanks to Jakub Kiwior and Leandro Trossard, Eberechi Eze and Mateta found the net to earn the away team a draw.
After Saliba gifted possession to the Crystal Palace attacker, Mateta scored an equalizer with a brilliant chip shot that beat Raya.
„Allen ist bekannt, dass [David] Raya große Winkel abdeckt“, sagte Owen gegenüber Premier League Productions.
“However, as soon as the angle becomes closed—when [William] Saliba is going wide to Timber or it’s possible that Raya needs to dash back to adjust his angle in case he returns.”
Raya was never going to be part of the game, and I feel for Saliba because he only makes one mistake in many ways. “If I were Saliba, I’d be in the dressing room screaming at Raya. “Sure, create an angle; that’s fine. Help me out sometimes, but if you’re unsure, just position yourself so that I can always pass to you. When I’m in trouble, at least I can go for safety,” he said. Arsenal’s next match is against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League next week.
