Wayne Rooney, a legend of Manchester United, has revealed his prediction for next weekend’s “Premier League title decider” between Manchester City and Arsenal.
The Gunners, who are aiming for their first league crown since 2004, lost to Bournemouth 2-1 at home on Saturday, missing the chance to increase their lead to 12 points at the top of the table.
After losing to Man City in the Carabao Cup final and being unexpectedly eliminated by Championship team Southampton in the FA Cup, this was Arsenal’s third defeat in four games.
Arsenal’s dismal weekend became worse on Sunday when Man City easily overcame Chelsea 3-0, cutting the deficit to just six points behind Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The Premier League title is essentially within Manchester City’s grasp with one game remaining and a home match against Arsenal set for next Sunday.
Man City will defeat Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, according to Rooney, a legend of Manchester United and England, who views this game as a “title decider.”
Rooney said on his BBC podcast, “Yes, I believe it will be,” when asked if the game counts as a title decider.
It’s an important game, and if City prevails, I think they will win the league; if Arsenal prevails, the title is up for grabs. It’s probably a title decider.
When asked what he thought would happen, Rooney said, “I think Man City will win, 1-0.” It gives City a small advantage, but even if that happens, it won’t be finalized.
After the international break, Arsenal suffered successive losses for the first time this season.
They defeated Sporting CP 1-0 in the first leg of their quarterfinal Champions League match last week, but on Saturday they suffered another loss to Bournemouth.
“I think it’s simply the pressure of attempting to win the Premier League,” Rooney said in response to a question regarding the causes of Arsenal’s difficulties securing wins.
“We recognize the importance of experience at this stage of the season, and since they have a number of players who haven’t won titles, pressure tends to mount.
