As part of its endeavors to enhance marine operations and economic growth, the Federal Government has started port upgrading projects in states other than Lagos. This was revealed by Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, during the 2025 Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria Conference, which was held in Lagos on Wednesday and had as its theme “Enhancing Logistics and Transport for a Sustainable Blue Economy in Nigeria.” It is anticipated that the port improvement projects will boost productivity, relieve traffic, and raise Nigerian ports’ level of competitiveness internationally. The Minister, who was accompanied by Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), stated that the goal of the current port modernization initiative is to increase capacity to meet international standards, improve cargo handling efficiency, and upgrade infrastructure.To create a technology-driven, paperless port environment that improves productivity, shortens turnaround times, and combats corruption, we are collaborating closely with all relevant parties. Oyetola stated In keeping with this pledge, the Federal Government has authorized a historic one-billion-dollar modernization project for the ports of Lagos, which aims to raise capacity to international standards, enhance cargo handling, and upgrade infrastructure.
