With the creation of a steering committee to supervise its implementation nationwide, the Federal Government has taken a step toward launching a national food assistance program.
A statement on the development was posted on the Federal Ministry of Health’s web page on April 12, 2026.
In order to coordinate the National Community Food Bank Program, the committee met for the first time in Abuja, according to the statement.
Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, spoke during the meeting and asked participants to concentrate on implementation, emphasizing that the initiative must have a significant impact on vulnerable Nigerians.
This committee is responsible for making sure that implementation is both efficient and well-coordinated. “This is about outcomes that enhance the lives of Nigerians, not about meetings,” he stated.
It was also mentioned that Oluremi Tinubu’s project aims to develop food and nutrition support systems at the community level throughout the 774 local government areas and address malnutrition.
According to the ministry, the group is made up of officials from important government agencies as well as ministries in charge of women’s affairs, agriculture, humanitarian affairs, and health.
The announcement states that as the initiative is carried out around the country, the committee is supposed to provide supervision, guarantee collaboration among stakeholders, and monitor progress.
It further stated that the program will concentrate on enhancing nutrition outcomes and lowering vulnerability, especially in marginalized groups.
The program’s official flag-off in Borno is planned for later in April, according to the Federal Government.
