The federal government, via the Industrial Revolution Work Group (IRWG), plans to create agro-processing zones in Kano and other major economic centers throughout various states in the federation.
The group’s resolution at the 16th session of the National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment (NCITI), chaired by Minister of State for Industry Senator John Enoh and themed “Accelerating Diversification by Leveraging Industry, Trade and Investment for Shared Prosperity,” was as follows
As stated by Ifeoma Williams, who serves as Senior Special Adviser on Strategic Communications to the Minister, the council reviewed 75 memoranda in total—40 informational items and 30 actionable recommendations. This review represents a significant advancement toward an industrial agenda that prioritizes implementation.
The five foundational pillars of the IRWG under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda were outlined by Senator Enoh. The Minister introduced a range of transformative projects that will commence in the coming months, including the establishment of agro-processing hubs in Kano that will convert cassava into ethanol and starch, thereby creating thousands of new jobs.
Next are the textile clusters in Aba and Lagos, which are set to transform both cities into regional hubs for garment manufacturing and export; and the Ala pharmaceutical production enclave in Ogun State, with the goal of securing Nigeria’s medicine supply chains and significantly reducing import dependency,” the statement clarified.
Additionally, the statement cited the minister’s words: “This is no time for pilot programmes or policy lip service. We are entering a period of comprehensive industrialization, where each investment, reform, and decision must propel us toward an economy that is globally competitive, inclusive, and driven by innovation.
