The Sugarcane Outgrower Development Programme is a flagship project of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) that aims to increase local sugar production and bring Nigeria closer to self-sufficiency. It is a crucial part of the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan, which aims to integrate farmers at all levels into the country’s sugar value chain, lessen dependency on imports, and promote inclusive economic growth, especially in rural communities, according to a statement released by the Council yesterday.”The SODP is designed to boost local sugarcane cultivation, reduce Nigeria’s dependence on sugar imports, and create opportunities for inclusive economic growth by integrating outgrower farmers into the industry’s supply chain,” stated NSDC Executive Secretary/CEO Kamar Bakrin during the launch.
