To improve the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency’s (FERMA) operations, Bar. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, the Minister of State for Works, has advocated for collaboration with Chinese construction firms. The minister spoke on a technical visit to the People’s Republic of China, where he held strategic talks with XCMG, a world leader in heavy-duty construction and maintenance equipment, according to a statement released by the minister’s media aide, Abdullahi A. Mohammed. He praised XCMG for its desire to assist Nigeria’s infrastructure revitalization initiative and for its ongoing investment in the country, especially through its Lagos branch.The main topic of discussion was how to improve FERMA’s ability to maintain Nigeria’s 36,000-kilometer federal road network by providing technical training for young people and contemporary equipment assistance. Specialized machinery will be provided via the partnership with XCMG to improve FERMA’s operating efficiency, and structured training programs will be established to give young Nigerians hands-on experience in equipment operation, maintenance, and related technical services. He underlined that these collaborations will further President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s Renewed Hope Agenda by fostering greater trade, connectivity, and job development.The minister praised China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), a division of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), at its global headquarters for its crucial contribution to Nigeria’s infrastructure, especially for the Keffi–Akwanga–Makurdi Highway, a historic Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project under the Highway Development and Management Initiative (HDMI).
