As a tool for empowerment, the federal government has encouraged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) participants to take advantage of its recently established national credit program, YouthCred.
Comrade Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, made this statement yesterday at the Lagos NYSC camp during the initiative’s awareness-raising event. He emphasized that the credit was intended to promote financial inclusion and make it easier for young people to obtain funding to launch their enterprises.
I want you to be a labor employer. To get this, I want you to train yourself. This was introduced in Abuja. We are taking the initiative on your behalf. Young people of Nigeria, we are prepared to take the initiative; all we need is some time. We are not considering your food preferences; rather, we are considering the future. Therefore, it’s time for us to reflect,” he stated.Citing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as the initiative to cover the students, he continued by saying that the credit system was created to serve young people in both the formal and informal sectors.
