Somotex Nigeria Limited has launched a new production line specifically for eco-friendly air conditioners, representing a significant step forward in the country’s efforts to adopt sustainable industrial practices.
The new line, situated in the company’s factory in Ojota, Lagos, will manufacture air conditioners using R-32 refrigerant. This next-generation option is less damaging to the ozone layer and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The commissioning ceremony drew key stakeholders, such as representatives from the Federal Ministry of Environment, Lagos State Ministry of Environment, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and industry leaders.
This action is included in Nigeria’s wider strategy to eliminate substances that deplete the ozone layer, in accordance with its commitments to the Montreal Protocol (which Nigeria signed in 1988).
