Hundreds of people are struggling to make a livelihood in the furniture-making industry in the Gandu Albasa neighborhood, which is close to the Kano State International Trade Fair Complex. The company supports the lives of its employees and their dependents, including carpenters, upholstery manufacturers, showroom attendants, sprayers, and apprentices learning the trade. Numerous stores containing mattresses, Turkish sofas, dining tables and chairs, kitchen cabinets, and other furniture items made in workshops are dispersed around the trade show complex area, extending from Zoo Road down to Lawan Danbazau Road up to the late Bashir Tofa’s home.According to Mansur Rabiu, manager of H Sarakee Best Furniture, a small business that sells beds and furniture for sitting rooms, over 5,000 people make a living from the company in addition to indirect jobs like food vendors, point-of-sale (POS) operators, recharge card sellers, form and accessory sellers, and delivery van driversHe said that local furniture manufacturers and retailers invested a cautious total of more than N1 billion. “Our local carpenters are doing such high-quality work that it is impossible to tell our items apart from those that are imported or manufactured in Turkey or abroad. “People often flock to our showrooms when they want to remodel and furnish their homes with new furnishings. We receive frequent business from some parents who intend to marry their daughters, which motivates us to increase our investment in the company,” Rabiu said.
