Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has appointed former House of Representatives member Francis Agbo and 22 others as coordinators across the state’s 23 Local Government Areas to strengthen grassroots democracy and enhance public involvement in governance.
The governor made the announcement in Makurdi during an expanded All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting, explaining that the coordinators would manage APC affairs locally and boost the party’s influence in their areas.
He urged the appointees to be credible representatives of both his administration and the party by working to attract new members, foster unity, and ensure that government projects and interventions reach their intended beneficiaries.
Alia warned against diverting public resources, stressing that all coordinators would be held accountable. He also instructed them to cooperate with community stakeholders to encourage participation in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise.
He assured that the state government would support them in their roles, describing their appointments as vital ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The governor further cautioned against escalating minor political disputes to him in Makurdi, noting that the coordinators would now be responsible for resolving local issues, while only unresolved or critical matters should reach his office.
He also tasked them with identifying 200 artisans across Benue for job placements and 800 youths interested in traveling abroad for vocational training, adding that each participant must obtain a fitness certificate from Father Adasu University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
Governor Alia thanked APC members for their loyalty and support, reaffirming his commitment to fairness, transparency, and accountability, and emphasizing that the APC remains committed to excellence and good governance.
