Gwale Local Government Authority of Kano State won a N5 million cash award after winning the football competition held by the Steron Community Development Foundation.
Nassarawa LGA received a N2 million cash prize for placing first runner-up, while Dala LGA received a N1 million reward for placing third.
A participation prize of N200,000 was given to each of the other teams who participated in the competition.
The teams at the popular grassroots football championship split a total of N8.2 million.
The competition, which included 16 teams selected from 15 Local Government Areas in the Kano Central Senatorial District, was designed to encourage community involvement, talent identification, and youth development.
The competition, according to the organizers, was created to promote harmony and peaceful coexistence across communities while giving young people a stage on which to display their abilities.
Sports are an essential tool for youth participation, economic inclusion, and social development, according to speakers from the Steron Community Development Foundation.
In order to increase grassroots sports initiatives nationwide, they urged increased cooperation between the public and private sectors as well as development partners.
Additionally, the foundation encouraged young football players to showcase their abilities on social media for potential scouting and mentoring opportunities as part of its talent identification project.
Football administrators, coaches, players, and community leaders attended the gathering and talked about how to improve grassroots sports development.
