How I got a coaching position with the Super Eagles, Chelle

Eric Chelle, a Malian strategist, has disclosed how he was hired as the coach of the Super Eagles.

In January, the Nigeria Football Federation, or NFF, appointed Chelle, 47, as the Super Eagles’ permanent head coach.

Given the number of elite coaches associated with the position, his appointment was unexpected.

For the first time ever, an African was given the task of leading the Super Eagles.

According to Chelle, he didn’t advocate for the position.

“I applied like any other coach when the NFF called for applications after I left the Malian team, and then the interview came,” Chelle told CANAL+SPORT Afrique.

“I presented my initiative, vision, and philosophy at a coaches’ conference that I was invited to attend. I had hoped things would happen much more quickly, but I had to wait because of certain circumstances, so I left. As it happens, I got this chance, which I risked losing, so I departed for Rouen. So I went back for this fantastic project.
