Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and Dr. Ike Neliaku, President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), eulogized the founder of DAAR Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, at the 2nd Raymond Dokpesi Diamond Lecture in Abuja. Governor Sule hailed the late media mogul for his trustworthy lifestyle and lauded him for the courage to establish the country’s first private radio and television stations despite the military rule, describing it as an era when “nearly everything was controlled by the government.” The Governor also lamented the growing sycophancy in the political arena, noting that some praise singers of former President Muhammadu Buhari turned against him immediately after his tenure ended. On his part, NIPR President Dr. Ike Neliaku described Dokpesi as a visionary who transformed communication in Nigeria, calling him a pathfinder who broke barriers in media, democratized information, and gave voice to the voiceless. Neliaku emphasized that Dokpesi’s vision was rooted in a philosophy that aligns with public relations as “service to society,” and that he understood communication is about “connecting people to truth, leaders to citizens, and nations to the world.”
