CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, the commissioner of police for Niger State, has brought 35 rescued abduction victims back to their families.
16 women and 19 children from the state’s Kagara, Tegina, and Agwara regions make up the rescued kidnap victims.
Speaking at a brief handover ceremony, Ibrahim Adamu, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation, stated that the victims were released following a few weeks of being under police protective custody.
“The victims will be reunited with their families as they have been under police protective custody with necessary support and care from the state government,” the CP said, handing the rescued victims over to Ayuba Usman Katako, the chairman of Rafi Local Government Area.
“Series of counselling and deradicalization processes were given to them, with foods and bedding. And having gotten the necessary clearance, the victims are hereby handed over to the council chairman and relatives.”
Elleman further explained how the victims were rescued.
“Police operatives swung into action and the first batch was intercepted in Agwara during an attempt to cross the river to other villages of New-Bussa, and five women and six children were rescued.
“It was revealed during questioning that bandits were moving from Birnin-Gwari to other locations, and the police tactical team from Mekujeri-Tegina road stopped the second group, which included four women and seven children. Another group was also stopped with a driver taking them away.”
In order to ensure prompt response, the CP urged the public to provide the police with actionable information whenever problems are noticed.
