Three suspected armed robbers have been apprehended by Ogun Police Command officers, who have also found three stolen cars and a handgun.
Adedokun Ayinde, Adedokun Adewusi, and Hammed Olarewaju were named as the suspects.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Command’s spokesperson, stated on Friday that the Anti Robbery Squad operation was carried out in response to reports of car theft, which prompted the Unit’s detectives to conduct a covert, intelligence-led investigation.
Hammed Olarewaju was arrested as a result of the investigation after it was discovered that he had a suspicious license plate. Adedokun Ayinde, who was identified as the head of a suspected armed robbery syndicate operating in various parts of the State, was apprehended following additional investigation, according to Babaseyi.
He claims that a stolen Toyota Sienna and a manufactured handgun thought to have been used by the suspects in the crimes were found during the operation.
In a related development, he stated that an Arowolo Taoreed in Ibadan, Oyo State, had a Toyota Corolla that had been stolen earlier at Ilaro.
Adedokun Adewusi was also taken into custody by operatives in relation to another armed robbery. A stolen 2017 Lexus RX350 F-Sport car that was linked to Abuja was found after more investigation. The car is coloured grey.
“The same criminal network is also connected to a pistol found in Ajah, Lagos State,” he stated.
According to Babaseyi, an initial investigation revealed that the suspects were members of a coordinated criminal network engaged in armed robberies and car theft throughout Ogun State and its neighbouring states.
He gave assurances that efforts were being made to recover additional stolen cars and capture other fugitive syndicate members.
In the meantime, CP Bode Ojajuni, the State’s Commissioner of Police, praised the officers for their professionalism and reassured the public of the Command’s ongoing dedication to public safety and crime prevention.
He asked people to be on the lookout for suspicious activity and to call the emergency lines of the Ogun State Police Command.
