The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has praised the residents of the FCT for their support and peaceful coexistence, promising continued development in infrastructure and social services throughout the territory.
In his message marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, Wike highlighted that the FCT stands as a symbol of national unity and identity.
“This is a significant moment to honor our founding fathers, who worked tirelessly to create a strong nation that today stands proudly among the world’s countries. The Federal Capital Territory remains a symbol of Nigeria’s unity and nationhood, and we must keep believing that we are stronger together,” he said.
Wike expressed gratitude to residents for backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on boosting the economy, improving security, ensuring food security, and enhancing infrastructure.
He noted that the FCT Administration has made strides by completing and commissioning key roads, schools, hospitals, and providing support for farmers, youth, and small businesses.
“We believe a city is incomplete without a robust road network, which is why road construction is a top priority, alongside other vital sectors,” Wike stated.
He also commended residents for maintaining peace and unity despite challenges.
“The FCT has become one of the safest places to live in Nigeria. This is not only due to security efforts but also because residents have a zero tolerance for insecurity and are committed to fostering peace throughout the territory,” he added.
Looking ahead to the February 2026 area council elections, Wike urged residents to conduct peaceful and orderly campaigns.
“I encourage everyone to campaign peacefully and, when the time comes, to vote in large numbers for leaders who truly prioritize their welfare,” he said.
Wike expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future under President Tinubu’s leadership and assured that the FCT will benefit from ongoing transformative projects.
“Despite the challenges we face, we remain hopeful for a brighter future. We must continue to work together faithfully to unlock the full potential of the FCT and realize our shared goals,” he concluded.
