Citing the Kaduna State Government’s disregard for prior agreements, the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ Kaduna State University section has declared an indefinite strike.
After the local congress requested it, the union’s National Executive Council authorized the strike, which went into effect on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
In a statement provided to reporters on Thursday, ASUU-KASU Chairman Dr. Peter Adamu and Secretary Dr. Peter Waziri enumerated the outstanding issues that led to the industrial action.
These consist of unpaid salary from May to September 2022, unpaid allowances for overseeing the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme, and a backlog of Earned Academic Allowances dating back to 2016.
Other complaints include the claimed erosion of university autonomy, the non-payment of entitlements to deceased members, the non-implementation of the 25% and 35% wage awards, and the failure to remit pension deductions from 2009 to 2019.
“A breach of trust and the state government’s failure to fulfill its commitments made the strike inevitable,” the union said.
The union insisted that until its demands were fulfilled, the walkout would continue indefinitely.
