The Kwara State Government has issued a cautionary directive to the principals of all senior secondary schools against imposing unauthorized financial charges during the registration period for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, delivered this warning on Tuesday during the official launch of the registration process at St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin. Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Rebecca Olanrewaju Bake, Dr. Olohungbebe reiterated that the administration led by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is steadfastly dedicated to providing accessible and high-quality education for all students in the state.
He emphatically stated that the State Government will not tolerate any form of extortion, financial mismanagement, or misappropriation of examination registration fees by school administrators. The Commissioner declared, “It is unacceptable and contrary to the policy thrust of this administration. No student or parent should be burdened with extra charges beyond the Ministry’s approved fees.”
Dr. Olohungbebe reminded principals that the sanctioned total registration fee for the 2026 WASSCE is \text{N}30,500, which includes \text{N}27,000 for the entry fee, \text{N}1,500 for e-registration, and \text{N}2,000 for administrative charges.
The Commissioner urged principals to organize meetings with Parents-Teachers Associations (PTA) to educate parents regarding the advantages of early registration and the penalties associated with late submission of forms. Furthermore, he charged them to execute the exercise with integrity and transparency, stressing that any principal found engaging in irregularities will face severe disciplinary action.
While acknowledging their significant contributions, the Commissioner commended the principals for their continued support of government educational policies and their dedication to fostering academic excellence. He called for ongoing cooperation with the state government, assuring them of Governor AbdulRazaq’s unwavering commitment to enhancing education through extensive school rehabilitation, provision of learning resources, and improved teachers’ welfare.
Earlier, the Director of Curriculum and Assessment, Sulaiman Ajape, had implored principals to manage the registration process with the utmost honesty and professional integrity. In his remarks, the State President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Comrade Mohammed Baba Saliu, advised his members to strictly adhere to the Ministry’s directives and avoid any malpractice.
The meeting, which included directors, ministry staff, and principals from all 16 Local Government Areas, concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold transparency and accountability in education administration.
