The Lagos State Police Command, through its Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has issued a stern warning to activist Omoyele Sowore and his supporters to avoid organizing any protest in Lagos over the recent demolition of buildings in Oworonshoki.
The CP, who spoke on Monday at Iyana-Oworo near the Third Mainland Bridge, explicitly told Sowore’s group to “stay away from Lagos or face the full weight of the law.”
The police command has already deployed a massive security presence to strategic flash points—including the Third Mainland Bridge, Maryland, Ojota, Lekki Toll Gate, and Gbagada—to prevent any demonstrations that could disrupt public order and cripple the economy by blocking critical infrastructure like the Third Mainland Bridge.
CP Jimoh argued that the government was justified in demolishing the Oworonshoki structures, claiming they were illegal buildings that had become “hideouts for criminals.” He stated that genuine residents were compensated and accused activists of trying to politicize the matter to create chaos.
While acknowledging the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, the Police Commissioner stressed that the police would not tolerate any action hidden “under the guise of protest” that infringes on the rights of others or disrupts public peace, promising to deal decisively with anyone involved in such disorder.
