The ongoing arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, is not legally justifiable, according to human rights attorney Christopher Chidera, but rather results from his vocal criticism of the Nigerian government.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Chidera characterized Kanu’s protracted incarceration as retribution for speaking up against the status quo and emphasized that there is no convincing legal justification for his confinement.
He claims that a larger attempt to lessen Kanu’s influence among the Igbo people is behind his detention.
Kanu claimed that former President Muhammadu Buhari had passed away, a claim that many people rejected as propaganda, but the government has not yet charged him. Why hasn’t he been prosecuted with disinformation if he is spreading such egregious lies?
They fail to realize that Nnamdi Kanu can gain the support of his people without the use of propaganda. According to Chidera, “He has the truth, he is consistent, and he has endured more suffering in his quest for freedom than all of them combined.”
The renowned lawyer also urged Africans to embrace solidarity and develop critical thinking skills, attributing the continent’s ongoing problems to mental complacency more than colonization.”Our inability to think critically is Africa’s greatest burden, not colonization. Black Africans will stay imprisoned—not by outside forces, but by our own mental indolence—until they develop the ability to critically think, question authority, and demand facts over feelings, he stated.
