Nigeria defeated Tanzania 2-1 in their opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations thanks to a goal by Ademola Lookman. The Super Eagles dominated the first few minutes of the game and were strong favorites to win.Semi Ajayi gave the three-time champions the lead after they came close a few times. After a corner kick, the ball was recycled, and Alex Iwobi crossed it into the area so Ajayi could go home. Charles M’Mombwa found himself unmarked inside the area, and Tanzania equalized. However, Nigeria scored the game-winning goal two minutes later thanks to Lookman, who completed with his left foot after a few moves.
