As they await Mike Maignan’s arrival from AC Milan, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has identified his first and second-choice goalkeepers at Stamford Bridge.
Last week, Chelsea contacted AC Milan with the intention of signing Mike Maignan as their new goalkeeper, given that the player has not yet signed a new contract with the club.
The Frenchman has consistently been a top target for the Blues, with clubs negotiating and the decision resting with Milan.
However, as talks progressed between the two parties, the deal was off as Chelsea were not willing to meet AC Milan’s price.
The deal did not proceed in time for the Club World Cup as Chelsea would not pay Club World Cup tax.
The Blues could return to complete the deal but maintain full trust in Petrović, Sánchez, Flip Jorgensen and talent Mike Penders for their goalkeeper role.
During his prematch press conference on Sunday, Maresca was asked about the possible arrival of Maignan, and the Italian responded, according to Fabrizio Romano, “Robert Sanchez is No 1 and then Filip Jorgensen is No 2.
“Mike Penders has joined us. Then we will take a final decision.”
Maresca also confirmed Chelsea will bring in a new winger to replace Jadon Sancho who has gone back to Manchester United after a season-long loan at Stamford Bridge.
“New winger? Something will happen for sure.
“Jadon Sancho has left so we only have three proper wingers now,” he added.
