Fatoumatta Njai, a former member of the ECOWAS Parliament and member of the Pan-African Parliament, says it is depressing that one out of four women in the Nigerian Senate are struggling in some way.
In an interview with Arise Television on Wednesday, Njai addressed questions and voiced her complaints.
This comes after Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central was prevented from returning to the Senate after her six-month suspension ended.
According to BASEMEDIA, Natasha was informed by the Senate on Monday that she could not resume just yet due to her ongoing legal matter.
The former ECOWAS Parliament member responded by saying that Senator Natasha should be allowed to return after serving her six-month suspension even though the matter is under judicial review.
“I am an African, even though I am not Nigerian. As a former member of the ECOWAS Parliament, I have some knowledge of Nigerian politics and am a Pan-Africanist. “I am aware of the difficulties and obstacles faced by female lawmakers in the election process, not to mention the denial of their opportunity to serve,” she said.
