The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asserted that Nigeria was Africa’s largest economy and the top destination for foreign investment before it left power in 2015, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of reversing the progress made during its tenure.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, made the claim during an interactive session with journalists on Wednesday.
He said the economic and social advancements achieved under the PDP had been undone over the past decade.
“We had an economy that ranked number one in Africa, and by the time the PDP left office in 2015, our economy was valued at over $600 billion,” Ologunagba stated.
“Nigeria was the leading destination for foreign capital investment, but all that progress has been reversed in the last ten years.”
He added that many Nigerians now look back at the PDP era with nostalgia, remembering it as a period of democratic governance and economic growth.
Ologunagba said the APC’s poor performance in government has caused citizens to reflect positively on the PDP’s time in power.
He described the PDP as a party that upholds the rule of law, respects democratic principles, and promotes open dialogue and participation.
The PDP spokesman also highlighted the importance of the party’s national convention in sustaining democracy in Nigeria, noting that the public is paying close attention to ensure the process is properly managed.
He emphasized that Nigerians, having witnessed governance under both the PDP and APC, can now fairly judge which party has better served the country.
