Ahmed Musa, captain of the Super Eagles, has delivered a powerful message to Nigerian political leaders regarding the continuing murders in Benue State.
Musa, who denounced the murders, called on Nigerian political leaders to take genuine steps to prevent additional bloodshed in Benue.
The ex-Leicester City forward stated that the leaders need consistent action rather than just seasonal appearances.
Musa responded to the development by posting on X: “Another wave of heartbreaking killings in Benue. How many additional lives must be sacrificed before genuine measures are implemented?
“We cannot continue to denounce violence and then just move on. Don’t wait until it affects your community or someone you know — raise your voice now. To our leaders: governance is not limited to election season. We need consistent action, not just seasonal appearances. We demand more. We deserve better. Benu State deserves peace. Nigeria deserves better. Sincere condolences to those who lost their lives in this process and to their families; may Allah grant you the strength to endure the loss.
On Friday and early hours of Saturday, over 200 people were killed in an attack in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue.
The deadly attack claimed the lives of mostly internally displaced persons, IDPs, who were seeking refuge at a local Catholic mission.
On Sunday, Catholic Pontiff, Pope Leo prayed for the victims of what he labelled as a “terrible massacre” in Benue State, Nigeria.
On Monday, Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia claimed that the armed herders who attacked Yelwata came through a river in the area.
Alia also claimed that the armed herders first attacked military and police checkpoints when they invaded Yelwata.
