Public Accountability and Democratic Reforms Advocate, Ezenwa Nwagwu, has stated that Nigerians are too impatient for the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to treat any election as a learning process.
Nwagwu made the comment on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme.
He emphasized that internal reforms within INEC must be comprehensive, particularly regarding the quality of individuals appointed as Resident Electoral Commissioners.
His statement comes shortly after the nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, from the North-Central region, as the new Chairman of the Commission.
According to BASEMEDIA , off-cycle governorship elections are approaching in Anambra and Osun states.
“I think what needs to happen now is to ensure that we have an INEC chairman who understands the challenges ahead, especially since his appointment comes just before elections in some states.
“There are no learning curves in INEC. Nigerians are in too much of a hurry for anyone to use any election as a learning curve,” he said.
