The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to collaborate with the Ministry of Aviation to host Nigeria’s inaugural international Airshow in Abuja, an event projected to attract aviation industry leaders from across the globe.
This commitment was announced by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who pledged comprehensive support for the airshow, acknowledging its significance as a major tourist attraction and confirming the FCTA’s official endorsement.
Wike made this assurance on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, led by the Minister, Festus Keyamo.
He stated that the FCTA will manage essential logistics, including transportation services (trains and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses) and extensive publicity utilizing FCTA-owned media platforms. The Minister also confirmed that relevant FCTA departments would oversee the event’s security and city sanitation, specifically along the Airport Road corridor. He further guaranteed a discounted rate for the use of the Ahmed Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre. However, while the use of billboards would be coordinated through the Outdoor Advertising Agency (DOAS), it would not be provided free of charge.
On his part, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo emphasized the Airshow’s status as a global-level event and its function as part of Nigeria’s 100-year aviation centenary celebration. He noted that the show is being organized in partnership with a private company and supported by the Nigerian Air Force. Keyamo formally requested Minister Wike’s presence at the opening ceremony to serve as the Chief Host, alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Keyamo highlighted the significance of the event, stating: “Around the world, a major aviation event on most countries’ calendars is their air show. We have the Farnborough Airshow, we have the Paris Air Show… we have never had one in our history.”
