Muktar Shagari, the former deputy governor of Sokoto State, has denied rumors that Northerners will not back President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
According to Naija News, Shagari stated that the North will provide Tinubu with all the assistance he requires to win the 2027 election while answering questions on Friday’s Arise Television Morning Show program.
He asserts that the President needs a second term and claims that Tinubu has been able to carry out his campaign pledges and programs to Nigerians.
Shagari reaffirmed that Northerners had nothing against Tinubu and that he is doing well, particularly in security.
“We in the APC have complete faith in President Bola Tinubu’s ability to lead this nation efficiently,” he stated. You would concur with me that when he took office, you all stated that there were issues, especially with the nation’s economy, and that some kind of extreme measures were needed.
“The President is making every effort to improve this nation, and the results show that things are starting to move in the right direction. I think we’ll get there.”
“So for President Tinubu to be able to implement the programs he promised Nigerians, he needs a second term, and we in the APC believe in him, and we believe that he has the ability and capability to do that.
“What we can do is to give him the moral support, the political support, and ensure that nobody distracts him by contesting against him. So what the party did at the North-West level and at the national level yesterday is completely correct and right, and it’s constitutional, and we will give him all the support he needs to win this election.Additionally, I would want to mention that some people are saying, “Oh no, Northerners, Nigerians, and so on will not vote for him.” We have nothing against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the north. He’s performing admirably when it comes to security. I can see that security is improving steadily. And he is doing a lot of other things. In light of this, I am certain that Tinubu will win the 2027 election, and as far as the APC is concerned, we will all back him.
