Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, a former governor of Delta State, was allegedly spotted at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Lagos Directorate 1 office on Awolowo Road in Ikoyi.
Okowa’s visit may be related to the ongoing investigation into claims of financial misconduct and abuse of office associated with his administration, according to a senior source within the anti-graft agency.
Since leaving office, the former governor has been the subject of an investigation by the EFCC regarding the purported diversion of approximately N1.3 trillion from the 13% derivation funds allotted to Delta State from the Federation Account between 2015 and 2023.On November 4, 2024, Okowa was first taken into custody and later questioned at the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the commission.
The source claims that the former governor went to the Lagos office to try to get his international passport released so he could travel overseas for what was described as urgent medical care.
At the time this report was filed, it was unclear, though, if the commission had granted the request and returned the travel document.
Calls to Mr. Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, were not returned, so attempts to get an official response from him were fruitless.
