The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Kwara State has cautioned its members and supporters from identifying with the state’s coalition movement.
The party is aware of “attempts by certain individuals and political actors to lure our members and supporters into the newly formed coalition movement,” according to a statement made Tuesday in Ilorin by the party’s secretary, Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode.
“We want to make it clear that the PDP, especially in Kwara State under Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s leadership, has nothing to do with the coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any other group that is not part of our great party’s established structure,” the statement emphasized.
The party called on its supporters and members throughout the state to be on guard and not fall for the pranks of “stranded and unpopular” politicians who have left the party and are now trying to gain attention by using Saraki’s name fraudulently to garner support for their new political venture.
“These people either left the party or were unimportant in the September 2024 local government elections, but our party still won the election in spite of their absence, which shows how the people of Kwara State still support us despite the ruling party’s manipulation of the results.
The party said, “They should run on their own record and not hide behind the name and legacy of our leader if they are truly confident in their popularity and acceptance among the people.”
According to the statement, Saraki is still a proud and dedicated PDP member who is actively working to reposition and unite the party in order to have a successful run in the general elections in 2027.
“The Kwara PDP is still together, committed, and true to its principles. We urge all of our members to stand firm under the PDP’s banner and to reject any pressure or offer to join the so-called alliance,” the statement continued.
