Mr. Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, has been granted honorary citizenship by the State of Georgia in the United States.
After attending the Black Congressional Week events in Washington, DC, Obi revealed the development in a statement on X on Friday.
According to him, Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock hosted the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception in the Kennedy Caucus Room of the U.S. Senate, which kicked off the day’s events.
He claims that Senator Warnock urged him to talk about African democracy and progress.
Obi also went to a meeting with Georgia Power, the biggest independent power provider in the state, where he spoke with Kim Clark, the CEO, about energy distribution and generation.
He also took part in the One Voice Africa event, which promotes Black immigrants’ dignity. He asked attendees of the forum to be more interested in advancing good governance throughout Africa.
The day’s high point, he said, was the awarding of Georgia’s honorary citizenship, adding that the interactions strengthened his resolve to create a new Nigeria based on responsible and visionary leadership.
I took part in Black Congressional Week activities yesterday, Thursday, September 25, in Washington, DC, with a focus on Georgia State events.
First, U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock hosted the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception in the Kennedy Caucus Room of the U.S. Senate. I was encouraged to talk about African democracy and development by Senator Warnock, who is a fervent supporter of the continent’s development.
The second event was organized by Georgia Power, the state’s biggest independent power provider, which produces and delivers more than 20,000 megawatts of electricity across the country. I had a very enlightening talk with Ms. Kim Clark, the CEO of the company.
The One Voice Africa event, which was organized by a group dedicated to protecting the dignity of Black immigrants, came in third. Noting that Africa has unbounded potential under the direction of responsible and visionary leaders, I urged them to become more involved in advancing good governance in the continent.
Ultimately, the day’s high point was when the State of Georgia awarded me Honorary Citizenship of Georgia.
