A 300-level student at the Federal University of Education in Pankshin, Dum Village, Bachi District, Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, was ambushed and killed by gunmen on Monday night.
The attackers, who allegedly positioned themselves at the village entrance, opened fire on two young men from the community on Monday, killing the student, named as 29-year-old Badung Sunday Alamba. However, one of the guys managed to flee.
It was said that he was his mother’s sole kid.
According to Mr. Dung Elisha, a community member who spoke with our correspondent, “he was the only child of his mother.”
The deceased’s companion, Dachomo Habila, narrowly escaped unhurt despite attempts by the gunmen to kill him.The incident was reported to reporters by Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM).
He called the attack “a premeditated, calculated, and barbaric assault on innocent civilians” and vehemently denounced it.
According to Tengwong, the attackers specifically targeted Berom settlements in the local government areas of Jos South, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom.
He encouraged security authorities to find the murderers and their sponsors and bring them to justice as soon as possible. He also asked for a swift and comprehensive inquiry into the killing.
Additionally, the BYM spokesperson asked security personnel to bolster protection and surveillance in the vicinity of vulnerable populations that have frequently been targeted.
Attempts to get comments from SP Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, were unsuccessful.
