In Vom, Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, troops of the Quick Response Force (QRF) have discovered two illicit arms manufacturing facilities as part of Operation ENDURING PEACE.
Along with recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition from the factories, the troops also detained five suspects.
Operation ENDURING PEACE’s spokesperson, Captain Polycarp Oteh, paraded the suspects at the operation’s headquarters and stated that the success was the result of security forces working together.
He clarified that the operation was a component of ongoing efforts by Operation ENDURING PEACE to protect law-abiding residents within its Joint Operations Area (JOA) and cut off the supply chain of illegal firearms.
“The operation, which was the result of highly intensified and comprehensive human intelligence gathering as well as strategic surveillance, led to the discovery of two illegal arms manufacturing sites,” stated Oteh.
Five suspects were apprehended by troops during the precision operation after they were discovered creating deadly weapons. A sizable cache of weapons and industrial equipment was found after a thorough search of the locations.
“Nine fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, four empty AK-47 magazines, seven skeletal AK-47 rifles, and ten rifle butts” were among the items he listed as recovered.
“Thirty-six empty 7.62mm special ammunition shells, four revolver engines, fourteen recoiling springs, six hand drilling machines, nine filing machines, four welding machines, and various industrial equipment are among the other items recovered,” he continued.
Captain Oteh also revealed that the recovered items and suspects were being held by the military for additional investigation.
In order to eliminate the remaining weapons and ammunition that were already in use, he continued, troops were consolidating ongoing covert operations.
Oteh thanked the public for their support and asked them to keep an eye out and notify security agencies of any suspicious criminal activity.
