The Police in Anambra State have apprehended twenty-six-year-old Ugochukwu Uzor, who is suspected of involvement in the murder of a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Justice Azuka. Honourable Azuka was kidnapped on Christmas Eve last year while on vacation in Onitsha, and his body was later discovered in February at the base of the Second Niger Bridge, despite unconfirmed reports that a ransom had been paid for his release. In a press release signed by Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga and distributed to journalists, the Anambra State Police confirmed that the arrested suspect, Ugochukwu, was implicated in the killing and has an extensive history of committing violent offenses. The police statement revealed that Uzor confessed to his participation in the abduction and subsequent killing of Honourable Azuka Justice, a prominent member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, on December 24, 2024. Uzor, who is notorious for his violent criminal acts, was found to have a large body tattoo bearing the words “No Forgiveness” and “No Mercy,” which serves as a disturbing indicator of his deeply entrenched criminal mindset. During the interrogation, the suspect admitted to leading multiple criminal gangs operating across Anambra and adjacent states. The police provided details on the arrest, stating that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, successfully captured the heavily injured and notorious armed robber during a major offensive operation in the Ogbaru Local Government Area on December 8, 2025. The suspect, identified as the twenty-six-year-old Ugochukwu Uzor, is considered a dangerous criminal with a history of violent crimes. He was detained in Iyiowa Odekpe, Ogbaru LGA, following a fierce exchange with police officers, during which one locally fabricated Beretta pistol and eleven rounds of live ammunition were recovered. The police command characterized the arrest of Ugochukwu Uzor as a major success in the effort to combat violent crime and indicated that it will support further investigations aimed at dismantling the criminal syndicates operating within the state.
