After receiving the All Progressives Congress (APC) statement of interest and nomination papers on Wednesday, former Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar formally entered the race for governor of Bauchi State.
After completing the purchase of the N50 million forms, Tuggar spoke to media about his projected administration’s top priorities, emphasizing economic restoration through agriculture and focus areas as well as insecurity.
He pointed out that improving livelihoods in Bauchi would need addressing security issues and making greater use of the state’s agricultural resources.
The necessity to effectively use our farms and the problem of insecurity will be our main priorities. He stated, “Bauchi has enormous land resources, and these must be organized in a way that supports pastoralists and subsistence farmers while pulling people out of poverty.”
Tuggar cautioned against a system in which resources are concentrated in the hands of a few at the expense of the many, emphasizing that equitable access to land must be guaranteed to prevent economic imbalance.
Regarding the party’s primary election methodology, the candidate stated that he would be open to either direct primaries or consensus agreements as long as the procedure is credible and transparent.
“As long as it ensures fairness, I am at ease with whatever course of action the party chooses. Producing candidates with integrity and sincere support from the public is what matters most, he said.
On March 30, 2026, Tuggar resigned from his position as minister in accordance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s order for political appointees running for office to quit.
