Residents of the Elebu area in Oyo State’s Ido local government are urgently appealing to Governor Seyi Makinde to fulfill an older promise and reconstruct the severely dilapidated Elebu Road.
When a BASEMEDIA correspondent visited the area on Wednesday, residents pointed out that while Governor Makinde had vowed to rebuild the road years ago, the commitment remains unfulfilled. The road, which runs along the Circular Road corridor, is currently in poor condition, having been initially built during the administration of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Mr. Dolapo Ajao, a resident, explained that the road’s state is negatively impacting the community’s social and economic life. He noted the road becomes “impassable” during the rainy season, affecting commerce and even causing some residents to abandon their homes.
Another resident, Mrs. Iyabode Aina, highlighted the community’s own efforts to cope, mentioning that local youths had previously pooled resources to make repairs, and communities graded and filled the road about two years ago. She also recalled that the late former NURTW Chairman, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde, used to help maintain the road before his death. She appealed for the state government to start the reconstruction immediately.
Mr. Kolade Adeoye directly appealed to the Governor to keep his word, referencing the promise made when the Governor commissioned a health center there. Adeoye stressed, “We are waiting for him to fulfill his promise before the next general elections.”
It seems the residents are keenly watching for that campaign promise to materialize.
