The Rivers State chapter of the African Democracy Congress (ADC) has pledged to secure justice for Emohua Local Government workers recently dismissed by council chairman Hon. Chidi Lloyd.
DAILY POST reports that the Rivers chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) on Monday instructed members across all 23 local government areas to begin a seven‑day warning strike in protest of the sackings.
The union says Lloyd dismissed more than 300 council workers after returning for a second term as chairman.
During his first term, Lloyd had accused the workers of being ghost employees and sacked them; they were later reinstated by Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the state’s political crisis. After the recent LG election and Lloyd’s return, the workers were dismissed again.
NULGE suspended the strike following Governor Fubara’s prompt intervention.
In a statement issued Tuesday after a meeting with senior political adviser Dr. Fortune Alfred, ADC Chairman Chief Sampson Leader condemned the dismissals as heartless.
Leader said Lloyd’s actions—sacking LGA staff amid Nigeria’s economic hardship—show a cruel disregard for the welfare of Rivers residents and reflected “barbarity” he attributed to the oppressive regime at the federal level.
“The ADC will not stand idle while our people suffer. We vow to fight tirelessly for justice and liberation, and by 2027, we will liberate Rivers State from the clutches of these oppressive rulers,” Sampson declared.
He welcomed Governor Fubara’s intervention and warned that any further abuses of power would be met with strong resistance.
