Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, president of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), has praised the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) Golf Club for being the first in Nigeria to successfully combine golf and cultural heritage in honor of the country’s 65th anniversary of independence. With the theme “Swinging in the Depths of Nigeria’s Cultural Heritage,” Runsewe characterized the event as a ground-breaking endeavor that transforms the way golf is viewed and honored throughout the nation.As the first club in Nigeria to successfully integrate culture into the golf community, GEJ Golf Club has created history today. This is a message, not only a remembrance. “It serves as a reminder to cherish our nation and utilize golf as a means to capitalize on our rich customs,” he said. He highlighted that the invention goes beyond sport to foster harmony, peace, and patriotism, praising it as “a brand identity for golfing in Nigeria.” In addition to commemorating Independence Day, the GEJ Club is encouraging discipline, peace, and a revitalized feeling of cultural pride by scheduling this celebration for October 1st,” he continued.
