Before going to court, candidates who lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections are advised by Dr. Sam Amadi, a former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, to determine whether the process violated electoral laws, the party constitution, or internal regulations.
Amadi stated on Tuesday’s Morning Show on Arise Television that disgruntled candidates should first look into how the primaries were run to see if there were any serious violations that call for legal action.
He claims that complaints resulting from serious infractions during party primaries are not entirely barred by the Supreme Court’s stance on internal party affairs.
Those who were unsuccessful in the APC primary should first assess the process: what went wrong? Is there a constitutional, electoral, or internal rule violation?
According to the Supreme Court’s prevailing opinion, if they are and the violations are serious, I believe they should have access to the legal system. “Every type of complaint is not excluded by the concept of internal affairs,” he stated.
Amadi also made it clear that, despite campaign posters urging him to run for the Senate, he is not running for any elective office in the current election cycle.
He added that he intends to run in the upcoming governorship election in Imo State, which has an off-season electoral cycle, and that the posters were put up by pressure groups rather than being a part of his active campaign.
“First, I’m not running for an election,” stated Amadi. I was asked to run for the Senate on a poster, but I declined. I’ve previously attempted to run for governor, and I’ll decide where and how to do it next year.
For the time being, those posters are pressure groups urging me to run for the Senate. Since Imo is off season, I won’t be running for office this cycle, but I will undoubtedly do so in the following cycle. That makes my position clear. I’m not currently running for any office.
