Abdul Ahmed Ningi, a lawmaker from the Bauchi Central Senatorial District, has demanded a comprehensive probe into claims that federal contractors were not paid for projects finished since 2024.
There have been rumors that since October 2024, the majority of contractors working on projects for Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies have not received payment.
The Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Yemi Cardoso, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, and other senior government officials were called before the House of Representatives on May 8th, according to the DAILY POST.
Speaking during Tuesday’s plenary, Senator Ningi put to rest, rumours that the government may be lacking fund to pay the contractors.
He urged the upper legislative chamber to urgently mandate the committee on appropriation to find out why the payments were not made.
Nearly 80% of the constituency projects that I am aware of were finished six months prior to today, he stated.
You start to hear rumors that the office of the accountant general and the minister of finance are selectively choosing which projects to fund, which is incorrect.
“I believe the investigation should be placed under the purview of the appropriations committee. Give them two weeks to provide a report explaining the reasons behind the current situation to this chamber.
