Tenure extension is not a problem, but democracy yields benefits, according to SDP leader Adebayo.

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has stated that the extension of the president’s and governor’s terms is not Nigeria’s issue but rather the result of democracy.

In response to questions during an interview on Wednesday’s “MorningShow” on Arise Television, Adebayo demanded the complete eradication of what he called the “demon that rigs elections” in Nigeria.

He maintained that the absence of a functional system was the issue, not the president’s or governors’ longer terms.

“We need a political system where the voter determines the winner,” he declared. My goal is to permanently eradicate the demon that rigs elections.

“The issue is not with a six-year or four-year term. The issue is that you need to have an effective system where voters choose the winner and no one watches INEC as if it were a secret society.

Additionally, political parties attract new members and ideas, so you should approach a congress or political party with optimism.

As we approach June 12th, my main goal is to eradicate the evil of election manipulation. Voters must be able to cast ballots once and for all. Therefore, it doesn’t matter how long you stay in power or anything else. It’s what you do once you arrive.

“So, I think the current system of four years, and if you are good enough, you go for another four years, that is, if the people who are actually going to the government are going there only by winning free, fair, and credible elections,” he stated.
