According to the Nigerian government, an Air Peace pilot and co-pilot were charged with using alcohol and hard drugs during their investigation.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau’s preliminary investigation report regarding the Air Peace runway excursion following their June 13, 2025, landing at Port Harcourt International Airport states as much.
This was revealed in a preliminary report that Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director of the Public Affairs and Family Assistance Bureau at NSIB, signed on Friday.
The initial reports follow the flight crew’s toxicological test results coming back positive, according to the NSIB.
According to the explanation, tests revealed that the crew had alcohol in their system, and another crew member had tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in cannabis, also referred to as “Indian hemp.”
“The flight crew’s initial toxicological testing showed positive results for a number of substances, including markers of alcohol consumption. Another member of the cabin crew checked positive for THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.
The investigation’s safety management and human performance components are reviewing these findings.
“The captain and first officer tested positive for ethyl glucuronide during toxicological screening after the incident, indicating recent alcohol consumption.”
