As part of its constituency and executive project tracking initiative, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, or ICPC, has monitored at least 1,440 government-funded projects in Northern Nigeria totaling over N271 billion.
At a press briefing on Thursday in Kano, ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu, SAN, disclosed that 767 of the projects, totaling N112 billion, were in the North-West, while 673 projects, totaling N158 billion, were in the North-East.
“We are seeing noticeable outcomes from our tracking exercise. In addition to keeping an eye on these projects’ progress, we have also retrieved substantial sums of money and assets,” the chairman stated.
The anti-graft agency also revealed that $1.066 million in foreign currency and N7.269 billion in cash were found in the North-West.
It further stated that N43.335 million was recovered in the Northeast. The operation also resulted in the seizure of three farmlands, twenty-five land plots, and fourteen buildings in the North-West.
The chairman of the ICPC recognized the media’s function in ensuring public officials are held responsible.
