Former Katsina State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Hon. Salisu Lawal Uli has resigned from the party and pledged loyalty to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Uli resigned on July 2, 2025, citing ongoing leadership issues and a lack of internal discipline in the PDP since 2022 in a letter to the party leadership. He claimed that the party was no longer able to enforce accountability because it had deviated from its core beliefs.
“Warning signs became evident when certain members, regardless of their misconduct, elevated themselves above party discipline,” he said.
Uli, a founding member of the PDP since 1998, stated that he was still dedicated to the goal of “liberating Nigeria and Katsina State.” He also stated that he would now work toward that objective through the ADC, which he characterized as a platform that is more democratic, disciplined, and ideologically motivated.
His departure contributes to an increasing number of PDP members leaving Katsina as the party’s power is being undermined by internal strife.
A group that supported Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, the former Secretary to the State Government, SSG, recently quit the party as well. 287 past candidates and aspirants for the chairmanship, councillorship, and State House of Assembly positions were part of the organization.
Alhaji Yasir Ibrahim, the chairman of the Local Government Chairmanship Aspirants’ Forum, spoke on behalf of the defectors, claiming that internal dishonesty and treachery were the main reasons they left.
In Katsina, the PDP is no longer seen as a legitimate opposition party. For a more powerful political front, we are joining forces with a new alliance,” he declared.
