The head of the Italian Tennis Federation said on Monday that seven-time winner Novak Djokovic, who has been sidelined for three weeks, will play in the ATP Finals in Turin next week. The 38-year-old boycotted the Paris Masters, which concluded on Sunday, following his loss to Valentin Vacherot in the Shanghai Masters 1000 quarterfinals on October 11.He will play Alejandro Tabilo in the second round this week in Athens to make his competitive comeback. In response to rumors that the Serb will skip the tournament like he did the previous year, federation chief Angelo Binaghi stated on Rai Gr Parlamento radio, “We have confirmation that Djokovic will be in Turin.” The eight top players of the year get together for the ATP Finals, the customary season-ending event. Currently ranked fourth in the yearly rankings, Djokovic made his debut at the tournament in 2007. This season, he has advanced to the Miami Open final and the semifinals of all four Majors. He became the third player in the Open era to win his 100th ATP championship in Geneva in May.Felix Auger-Aliassime and Lorenzo Musetti will compete for the lone available spot in the ATP Finals now that Djokovic’s participation has been confirmed. In the annual rankings, they are separated by 160 points and are ranked eighth and ninth, respectively.
