The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele, promised a stricter crackdown on traffic and environmental offenders, warning that violators face swift arrest and prosecution.
Akerele made the pledge on Tuesday during a stakeholder meeting at Safety Arena, Oshodi, where market leaders, transport operators, and artisans were informed about the agency’s renewed enforcement strategy. The meeting was held to address rising urban disorderliness in Lagos.
Akerele expressed concern over the human and economic losses caused by persistent issues like the Okada (motorcycle taxi) menace, drug abuse, one-way driving, and other traffic and criminal behaviors.
He stressed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is determined to eliminate these threats, noting that the agency was established to reduce losses linked to lawlessness.
Akerele highlighted the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017 and the Transport Sector Reform Law 2018, which enforce zero tolerance for Okada operations on highways, one-way driving, street trading, illegal structures, and shanties.
The Task Force Chairman appealed to residents to actively support enforcement by reporting violations and suspicious activities, emphasizing that community safety must come first. He urged stakeholders to report illegal developments, blackspots, drug addicts, miscreants, and cultists in their areas, providing specific phone numbers for reports.
